Microsoft and Its Antics – Native HTML5?

Read the articles here: here.

“Web sites and HTML5 run best when they run natively, on a browser optimized for the operating system on your device,” said Hachamovitch. “We built IE9 from the ground up for HTML5 and for Windows to deliver the most native HTML5 experience and the best Web experience on Windows.”

“The only native experience of the Web of HTML5 today is on Windows 7 with IE9.”

Microsoft is going at it again. To promote IE9 (and IE10 in development), they are claiming it’s the only browser that supports “native HTML5”. What the hell is that? HTML5  is a specification of HTML and runs a browser, there is nothing “native” about it. I think Microsoft is just preying on people’s ignorance (no offense, but I couldn’t think of a better word) on HTML5.

The term “native HTML5” has got many people speculating (a.k.a. poking fun of) what Microsoft meant:

  1. Hardware acceleration for HTML5 and that only the latest Windows OS will support it:  Microsoft is trying to get people to abandon XP and switch to Windows 7 but this is just plain dumb. Anyway, no processor exists (and probably never will) to specifically process HTML5.
  2. IE9 is built into the Windows system and is thus running HTML5 “natively”: a dumb definition, especially it doesn’t really do much performance wise and only introduce security holes in IE
  3. It’s just a marketing campaign: that’s pretty much what the whole thing is

Well, at least Mozilla and Opera are taking it at good stride. Still, Microsoft has really got some nerves, trying to say IE9 is better than other browsers. Don’t listen to Microsoft and download a new browser today!
